Transcription & notes
Otter
Records and transcribes meetings, then writes a summary and action list. Otter's privacy policy says it trains its own AI on transcriptions.
Good for
- Transcribing a team meeting or a supervision session where no one is identified
- Turning a long recorded discussion into a summary and a list of actions
- Staff who find typing notes slow
Watch out for
- Otter's own policy says it trains its AI on transcriptions that may contain personal information, with no plan-level exception and no opt-out that we could find. That is hard to square with recording anything about a person you support.
- Recordings are held on servers in the United States.
- We found no published data processing agreement and no security certification. Ask for both in writing before any trial.
- Transcription accuracy drops with background noise, accents and unfamiliar names, which covers most of a care setting.
- Recording a conversation involving a person you support needs a lawful basis and, usually, their knowledge. A tool cannot give you that.
