Writing help
Grammarly
Checks spelling, grammar and tone as you type, and rewrites text in plainer English. Now owned and run by Superhuman.
Good for
- Tidying spelling, grammar and tone in letters and reports
- Making a dense paragraph shorter and plainer
- Staff who find written English hard and want quiet support
Watch out for
- It works by reading what you type, wherever you type it, including inside your care system if the browser extension is installed. Decide where it is allowed to run before you roll it out.
- Whether your text trains its models is a setting, and the policy applies the same control to free and paid users. Check it rather than assuming a paid plan turns it off.
- Data is held in the United States, which your DSPT return and your commissioners may ask about.
- The company renamed to Superhuman. Any policy, contract or DPIA naming Grammarly Inc. is probably out of date.
- It changes tone and word choice. On a safeguarding note or an incident record, plainer is not always more accurate. Read what it did.
